UW-Whitewater COVID-19 Testing Update

Updated COVID-19 Testing and reporting measures have been released via email to students and facility.

The information was provided below:

STUDENTS

Symptomatic testing

University Health and Counseling Services is conducting COVID-19 testing for students who show signs or symptoms consistent with COVID-19 or are asymptomatic with recent known or suspected exposure to the virus. UW-Whitewater is partnering with local public health agencies and hospital organizations in order to provide services to students on both the Whitewater and Rock County campuses.

  • Students who have health insurance will be billed for labs $95-$100. Students will not be charged a copay.
  • Health Services has a supply of free PCR tests set aside for symptomatic students who do not have insurance. Students will not be charged a copay.

If they prefer, students may also use their own health care provider for symptomatic testing. Information on local free testing sites can be found on the Wisconsin Department of Health Services website.

Asymptomatic testing

Asymptomatic testing for COVID-19 has begun in residence halls and is offered through the financial support of UW System Administration. There is no cost to students for these tests. University Health and Counseling Services will randomly select residence hall students and invite them to schedule their test the following week. Testing is voluntary.

Asymptomatic students who live off campus are encouraged to contact their local health care providers for testing or seek out a local free testing site. This information can be found on the Wisconsin Department of Health Services website.

Quarantine or isolation

If you are a residence hall student who needs to quarantine or isolate and you cannot return home, University Health and Counseling Services in collaboration with University Housing will provide a room in Clem Hall and will provide meals.

FACULTY AND STAFF

University Health and Counseling Services will not provide tests for faculty and staff, unless they are live-in residence hall employees. Faculty and staff who show signs or symptoms consistent with COVID-19 or believe they have come in contact with someone who has tested positive should contact their medical provider.

COVID-19 REPORTING

University community members can report a positive COVID-19 test through the UW-Whitewater app. The reporting tool is located under Resoures on the app. Simply select “Report Positive COVID-19 Test.” Positive cases can still be reported through the COVID-19 hotline at 262-472-1362 or covid19info@uww.edu. The COVID-19 Office, which monitors the hotline phone and email, is staffed in person 7 days a week: Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. However, you may call or email 24 hours a day, and your message will be returned as soon as practicable.

An FAQ on the Warhawks Return website explains how to report a COVID-19 case or exposure and the steps that will be taken for both students and faculty and staff.
