Staff and administration on the campus of UW-Whitewater were notified August 16 that an employee at the UW-Whitewater Children’s Center tested positive for COVID-19.  Contact tracing began immediately, and all staff who were identified as close contacts have been made aware of their next steps in regards to testing and self-quarantine. This also included families of the children who using services at the Center who were determined to be close contacts. University Health and Counseling Services has also been in communication with the Walworth County Public Health Department.

At this time, all rooms in the center have been disinfected, and the classroom where this individual worked will continued to be closed through August 28.  The remaining classrooms opened and have been staffed since August 19.

In a statement released earlier this week, Chancellor Dwight Watson urged anyone with concerns about this situation to contact his/her supervisor. He added that the administrative staff will do its best to answer all questions and concerns while also respecting individual privacy rights and maintaining the obligation to public health and safety.
