NCAA Volleyball Tournament

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater will host an eight-team NCAA Division III Volleyball Tournament Regional this Thursday-Saturday, November 10-12, at Russell Arena in the Williams Center.

The first match on Thursday is between the Washington University in St. Louis Bears and the Heidelberg Student Princes.  The 14th ranked Bears are coming in 22-10 overall and 5-2 in their conference, are the third seed of the tournament. They are making their 30th consecutive appearance in the NCAA DIII Volleyball Tournament.  Ranked outside the top 25 the Student Princes are coming in 23-9 overall and 8-1 in their conference and are looking to take down the Bears who bested them in the fifth set of their last meeting.

The second game of the night will be between the UW-Oshkosh Titans and the Bluffton Beavers.  UW-Oshkosh will be making their 17th appearance in the national tournament.  With a 28-7 overall record, and 5-2 in their conference. The Titans finished in a three-way tie with UW-La Crosse, and UW-Whitewater for first place in the WIAC standings, marking the Titans’ second straight and 12th conference championship.  It will be the Bluffton Beavers fourth consecutive season to appear in the NCAA regionals.  Coming in 23-8 overall, and 8-1 in their conference.  The Beavers have a tough opponent ahead of them in the Titans.

The Third match of the night is between the Hope College Flying Dutch and the Elmhurst Bluejays.  The 10th ranked Flying Dutch enter with a 25-5 overall record and 13-3 in their conference and are looking to beat the Bluejays who bested them in four sets in their last meeting during the Midwest Invitational.  The 18th ranked Bluejays are coming in 22-12 overall with a 6-2 record in their conference.  This will be the sixth consecutive appearance in the national tournament.  The Bluejays have reached the Final Four in 2012 and the Sweet 16 in 2013.

For the final game of the night, the UW-Whitewater Warhawks will face off against the Greenville Panthers.  The Warhawks, who are hosting the tournament, are the #1 seed coming into the tournament with a 27-6 overall record and 5-2 in their conference.  The Warhawks earned the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference’s automatic bid after claiming the program’s 16th WIAC Tournament title over the weekend. UW-Whitewater is making its 25th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and are on an eight match winning streak.  The Panthers will be making their third NCAA national tournament and second consecutive appearance by winning the championship of the SLIAC tournament.  Coming in 25-7 overall and 16-2 in their conference, the Panthers will have a tough opponent in the #1 seeded Warhawks.
